Block (Electrical)

An electrically isolated section of track that can be controlled independently.

Full Definition

An electrical block is a section of track isolated from adjacent sections by insulated rail joiners or gaps. In DC systems, blocks allow multiple operators to control trains in different areas. In DCC, blocks are used for detection (occupancy sensing) and short circuit protection through power districts.
