Minimum radius is the tightest curve on a layout, typically the limiting factor for equipment operation. Larger locomotives and cars require larger minimum radii. Common HO minimums are 18" (tight, for smaller equipment) to 24"+ (better for larger modern equipment). Larger radii look more realistic.
