Wheelset

A pair of wheels mounted on a common axle.

Full Definition

A wheelset consists of two wheels pressed onto a single axle. Model railroad wheelsets must maintain proper gauge (distance between wheel flanges) for reliable operation. Metal wheelsets (nickel silver or stainless steel) provide better electrical conductivity and durability than plastic. RP-25 is the standard wheel profile.
