Choosing Power Supplies
Proper power supply selection ensures reliable operation and prevents damage to your equipment.
Track Power
DC Layouts
- Standard: 12V DC
- Current: 1-2A for small layouts, 3-5A for larger operations
DCC Layouts
- HO/N Scale: 14-16V AC
- O/G Scale: 18-22V AC
- Current: 5A minimum, 8A+ for larger layouts with sound
Accessory Power
Keep accessories on separate power supplies from track power:
- **Turnout motors:** 12-16V AC or DC, 1-2A
- **LED lighting:** 12V DC, current depends on LED count
- **Building lights:** 12V DC or AC
- **Signals:** 5-12V DC
Sizing Your Supply
Calculate total current draw:
- List all devices
- Note maximum current for each
- Add 20% safety margin
- Select supply meeting or exceeding total
Multiple Power Districts
