A scale at 1:64 proportion, between HO and O, historically associated with American Flyer trains.
S scale represents 1/64th of the prototype and uses 7/8 inch (22.2mm) gauge track. The scale is most associated with American Flyer trains produced by A.C. Gilbert Company from the 1940s-1960s. S scale offers a nice middle ground between HO and O - larger than HO for better detail visibility, smaller than O for reasonable space requirements. While less popular than HO or N, S scale has a devoted following and benefits from the efforts of S Scale Workshop and others.
