JR Central was formed in 1987 and operates the most profitable railway line in the world: the Tokaido Shinkansen connecting Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. This 515 km route carries over 150 million passengers annually.
The Tokaido Shinkansen pioneered high-speed rail when it opened for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Today, N700 series trainsets travel at up to 285 km/h, with trains departing every few minutes during peak hours. The service's legendary punctuality averages delays of less than one minute.
JR Central is developing the next-generation Chuo Shinkansen using maglev technology, targeting speeds of 500 km/h. The company's orange corporate color distinguishes it from other JR companies.
For modelers, the Shinkansen is available in outstanding quality from both Kato and Tomix, with long trainsets being standard.
