DCC Bus and Feeder Wiring

Proper DCC track bus wiring with feeders for reliable operation across your layout.

Wiring Steps

Run the main bus wires under your layout benchwork

Use heavy gauge (12-14 AWG) for the bus to minimize voltage drop

Tap feeders from the bus every 3-6 feet

Use lighter gauge (20-22 AWG) for feeders

Connect feeders to both rails

Maintain consistent color coding (red/black or color of your choice)

Tips for Success

Twist bus wires loosely to reduce electrical noise
Solder feeders to the outside of rails (less visible)
Test voltage at far ends of layout - should be within 0.5V of command station
Add a booster if voltage drop exceeds 1V
